Today I received this cd in the mail, featuring a painting that was commissioned in part for this purpose but also as wall art. The painting was fun to do (not too much adoptive art out there) but I am more excited about the cd.

The music is performed on harp and dulcimer by sisters– ages 9 and 11, who are not only using the donations to help Congolese orphans, including their own little sister whom they hope to meet in early 2012. You can read more about it here and you can buy the cd (or mp3′s) here.

I heartily recommend it. My own daughters spent all afternoon listening to the cd on repeat, and you would not only be encouraging these talented young ladies but also helping with the adoption.

A different sort of reading dragon. Playing with the wings– kind of liking these with their umbrella-like potential. Of course feasibly they wouldn’t hold him off the ground more than a few feet, but I like that idea– wings working at hummingbird speed to lift slightly off the ground, his legs pumping trying to jump so he can get higher. And how exhausting hat would be thus the down time, reading a big old book.

Will paint him as soon as I decide what his coloring should be like.

*Please pardon the photo. It is pouring rain outside so the lightening wasn’t ideal and paper is a bit warped because I didn’t use my best quality paper for the painting. (Most of the warping is actually because it is a big painting and I couldn’t get a decent angle to get a photo. The colors are fairly true however.

Above you see the giant from the upcoming card game “Sherwood Showdown”. I am quickly posting it as I prepare for my husband and I to go to PAXEast this weekend. It is nerve-wracking, mostly because we have been less than financially sound up until recently but we have the money now and feel lead to go. Also because with three kids going different directions and Shamus and I going together for the fist time in 14 years there is a lot to think about and plan. Good thing God has better control than I do. So enjoy the painting and I will be back next week.

Sorry, Veggietales reference in the title (in case you missed it).
Another illustration inside the book,by Travis Perry and Mike Lynch, being published by Splashdown Books. …

Sorry, Veggietales reference in the title (in case you missed it).

Another illustration inside the book,by Travis Perry and Mike Lynch, being published by Splashdown Books. You may note the odd outline around these paintings. In this case, due to the nature of the work, I cut each character out by hand, in real life (not using my mad photoshopping skills.:)) This way they could be incorporated quickly into the main design without a ton of photoshopping (I use very porous watercolor paper of which the scanner loves to pick up every nook and cranny. By hand cropping the images that particular issue is eliminated and it adds an interesting edge to the images.

And in case you are wondering– yes, the elf is supposed to look kind of cranky, because he IS cranky (not sure whether the author thinks he is but reading the book I certainly felt he was).
